Jamshedpur, Nov 23: The marathon held under the banner of the MP Sports Festival was successfully organised on Sunday under the leadership of Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, drawing participation from thousands of runners who covered a distance of 5 kilometres. The event also witnessed the presence of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, former MLA Purnima Sahu, Padma Shri and Dronacharya awardee Purnima Mahato, international cricketer and JSCA secretary Saurabh Tiwary, international cyclist Avtar Singh, Gurusharan Singh, Kreeda Bharati state secretary Rajiv Kumar and several senior BJP leaders including Sudhanshu Ojha, Nandji Prasad, Manoj Singh and others.

Addressing the participants, MP Mahato said that such events are being held across every Lok Sabha constituency under the leadership of the Prime Minister. “Sports teach us to accept both victory and defeat and help us learn the art of collective living. It is a strong medium for strengthening society and finding solutions to many social challenges,” he said. He added that attempts by anti-national forces to divide the country make social empowerment even more essential.

Participants received T-shirts at the start and refreshments were arranged after the race.

Winners in both men’s and women’s categories were awarded medals, certificates and cash prizes. Mukesh Kumar, Srijan Mishra and Aryan Mukhi secured the top three positions in the men’s category, while Shobha Mahato, Dilki Pariyan and Gia Hembram bagged the first three positions in the women’s category. Various organisations, including Tata Steel Foundation, Kreeda Bharati, Ex-Servicemen Service Council, Jai Ho, Jai Hind and athletics associations, played key roles in making the event a success.
