Jamshedpur: Lok Sabha MP Biduyt Baran Mahto met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, today and submitted a detailed set of proposals aimed at improving road construction and safety in the Jamshedpur constituency. MP Mahto highlighted the urgent need for a new road from Pardih Kali Mandir in Jamshedpur to Bankura via Patmada, Katin, Bandhwan and Jhilmili along NH-33. The proposed route is expected to strengthen connectivity between Durgapur Steel City in West Bengal and Tata Steel in Jamshedpur, facilitating smoother transportation and industrial logistics.

In addition, he proposed extending the existing NH-220 from Chaibasa to Hata further to Jadugoda, Musabani and Gudabanda, eventually connecting it to Odisha’s Bombay Chowki. This extension would integrate with NH-18, enhancing inter-state transport between Jharkhand and Odisha. MP Mahto also emphasized several local projects under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund, including road construction from Kaliyadinga to Jagannathpur via Chitreshwar, Ranguniya and Kumhardubi on the NH-6 corridor; development from Maheshpur to the Odisha border via Jyoti Pahadi Pulia, Jambani, Angarpada and Pahadpur on the NH-18 corridor; road connectivity from Beltand Chowk in Patmada to the West Bengal border via Kultand, Chudda and Lachhipur; construction of a bridge over the Swarna Rekha River at Bamdol to link Odisha; and upgradation of the Dhalbhumgarh–Mussabani route to improve access to the Odisha border.

MP Mahto also stressed the urgent need for underpasses at high-traffic points, particularly at Phooldungri, Ghatshila and PWD Chowk in Baharagoda, to reduce frequent accidents. He suggested a foot overbridge or underpass at Khandamouda in Baharagoda to ensure safer crossings for school and college students. Minister Gadkari welcomed the proposals and instructed officials to prepare project reports immediately, while also emphasizing the acceleration of ongoing works at Phooldungri, Kaliyadinga Chowk and the Bamdol bridge over Swarna Rekha. These initiatives aim to enhance road safety, industrial connectivity and regional development across East Singhbhum and neighboring districts.
