Jamshedpur, Nov 27: MP Bidyut Baran Mahato today raised the pressing issue of inadequate irrigation facilities for farmers in the Patamda, Bodam, and Katin blocks of East Singhbhum district during a Lok Sabha session under Rule 377. Expressing his concerns, Mahato highlighted the long-standing delays in implementing the Patamda Pump Canal Scheme, which was approved by the Jharkhand State Water Resources Department in 2021 to address the irrigation needs of farmers in the region.

“The Patamda Pump Canal Scheme was designed to provide much-needed irrigation to farmers, but no substantial action has been taken since its approval,” Mahato said. He further added, “Although the consultant submitted the survey report for the scheme last year, the Water Resources Department has not yet approved it. This delay has left around 12,500 hectares of agricultural land without irrigation, severely impacting the productivity of local farmers.”

The MP urged the government to take swift action against the negligence of officials and ensure that the scheme receives the necessary approval to support farmers and boost agricultural output in the region. “I request that the concerned authorities expedite the approval process so that the farmers of Patamda and surrounding areas can receive the irrigation facilities they urgently need, ensuring better crop yield and economic stability for the region,” Mahato emphasized.

The issue of delayed irrigation schemes has been a growing concern for local farmers, and Mahato’s appeal aims to bring immediate attention to the critical needs of the farming community in East Singhbhum.
