Jamshedpur, April 4: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto raised the issue of connecting Swarnrekha River with National Waterway under Rule 377 in Lok Sabha on Monday. He said that Jamshedpur could be connected with the National Waterway through Swarnrekha River thereby providing connectivity from Tatanagar to Haldia, West Bengal and Odisha. He went on to state during the Lok Sabha session on Monday that Jamshedpur had been included in the list of 100 waterways across the country that had been approved by the ministry. Jamshedpur parliamentarian Bidyut Baran Mahto said, “It will prove to be an important waterway of Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency as it is the largest industrial area in Asia with dozens of big industries like Tata, Telco, Tube, Tinplate and a large number of medium industries and for these reasons, the Jamshedpur connectivity could prove to be among the largest cargo ports.”
Bidyut Baran Mahto wanted to know the current status of the Waterway project and how soon could Jamshedpur be connected to it for transportation of goods and passengers.
