Jamshedpur: A disturbing incident of mob justice has surfaced in the Kanu Bhatta locality under the Sidgora Police Station jurisdiction. Local residents captured a youth suspected of attempted theft and beat him up instead of alerting the authorities. A video of the mob violence is now circulating on social media.
Caught in the Act
According to police, the suspect entered a residence in Kanu Bhatta with the alleged intent to steal. The noise alerted the family and neighbours, who quickly surrounded the youth. Although the suspect attempted to flee the scene, the crowd caught and overpowered him.
The agitated mob then dragged the youth to the middle of the road, tied him to a utility pole, and launched a violent assault using kicks and punches. The viral footage clearly captures the crowd relentlessly beating the bound youth.
Police Launch Investigation Without Formal Complaint
Mohammad Kaif, the Sidgora Station House Officer (SHO), confirmed that the police are aware of the incident. However, neither the homeowner nor the victim of the assault has filed a formal written complaint at the station.
Despite the lack of an official report, the police have initiated an investigation based on the viral video. Officials suspect the youth might be a professional thief, but they are currently verifying his identity and history.
Allegations of Illegal Trade
The incident raises serious questions about public order and the rise of vigilantism. Authorities are investigating why the crowd did not hand the suspect over to the police and are scrutinizing the legality of the mob’s actions.
