Jamshedpur, Dec 27: Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) stopped the ongoing construction of stadium and park at Gandhi Maidan here on Tuesday following protest by local BJP leaders and members of various Hindu outfits.
BJP leaders termed the development as the victory of their agitation. Party leader Neeraj Singh said the united agitation by various Hindu outfits led the MMC to go on the back foot and stop the construction work. He said the MMC will not be allowed to carry on the construction since Gandhi Maidan is used for organizing Durga Puja every year.
Yesterday, BJP leaders accompanied by members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Das and Hindu Peeth had joined the agitation against the construction work and alleged that anti-Hindu elements were behind the idea of building stadium and park at Gandhi Maidan. Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato also supported the agitation and demanded that the sentiments of Hindus be respected.
