Jamshedpur MLA’s efforts bring relief to residents of Punjabi Refugee Colony

Jamshedpur: In a major relief to the residents of Punjabi Refugee Colony and Leprosy Ashram, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu’s persistent efforts have yielded positive results. Following her recent meeting with Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) Chanakya Chaudhary, key approvals have been granted to address long-standing civic issues.

During the meeting, MLA Sahu highlighted critical concerns related to water supply, sewerage, and electricity in these areas. She specifically demanded an exemption in the security deposit for new electricity connections for the residents of Leprosy Ashram, emphasizing their vulnerable social and economic status. Additionally, she urged Tata Steel to waive the ₹5,000 penalty imposed on water connections in Punjabi Refugee Colony under the Golmuri area and facilitate legal connections for all families.

Responding positively to her requests, Tata Steel management has now approved the waiver of the ₹5,000 penalty for water connections in Punjabi Refugee Colony. Furthermore, families living in the Leprosy Ashram have been granted an exemption from the security deposit for new electricity connections, ensuring them better access to essential services.

Expressing gratitude to Tata Steel for their support, MLA Sahu reiterated her commitment to public welfare. She has urged residents of Punjabi Refugee Colony to apply for valid water connections and assured them that further steps will be taken soon to address sewerage and other infrastructural issues in the locality.
