Jamshedpur, June 10: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has written to state chief secretary Sukhdev Singh on state government quashing departmental proceedings against ADGP (special branch) Anurag Gupta.

“The allegation was that Anurag Gupta tried to influence the Rajya Sabha Elections-2016 and put pressure on it by meeting the then legislature, Nirmala Devi and talking over phone. As far as I know, the then Jharkhand Vikas Morcha leader Babulal Marandi and others had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard. The current president of Congress party, Rajesh Thakur was also involved in this campaign and the candidate who was defeated by less than one vote in the Rajya Sabha elections is the brother of the present Chief Minister. After much fuss with the intervention of the Election Commission, the then government registered a case in this regard, but the investigation of the case was not done properly and this case is still pending,” the letter alleges.

The letter further alleges that presenting officer appointed by the Home Department of the Government did not show any seriousness in probing the allegations before the Operating Officer.

“It seems that the government did not give due consideration to the point of the operating officer and the presenting officer did not present the facts properly before the operating officer. If in such a situation such an intention came from the operating officer, then after review, the government should have sent it again to the operating officer for consideration, which was not sent. In the light of the above description, the notification of the Government ‘that the respondent has been acquitted of this serious charge’ does not appear to be correct,” states the letter.

The letter also alleges that that office of the Special Branch was opened for phone tapping near the then CM’s residence, which was operated by a private person named Baijnath Prasad. At that time Anurag Gupta was Additional Director General of Police, Special Branch and this office was functioning under his full knowledge.

“If the officers posted in the top posts in the police department of the state government do irregular work to serve the political interest of someone, then it taints the image of the police department and also violates the law to the subordinate police officers” the letter states.
