Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy meets Supreme Court advocate on Indira Nagar-Kalyan Nagar demolition notice

Jamshedpur, September 12: Legislator Saryu Roy met senior Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay at his Nizamuddin Institute office in Delhi to discuss the notice issued by the Jamshedpur district administration to demolish around 150 houses in the Indira Nagar-Kalyan Nagar slums. During the meeting, they decided that once the Jamshedpur district administration filed a new affidavit as directed by the Kolkata bench of the NGT, a response would be filed, and the slum dwellers’ case would be presented before the bench.

The next hearing has been scheduled for October 20, before which the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum must submit a detailed affidavit to the NGT. The Chief Secretary of Jharkhand was also required to file a personal affidavit. Notably, none of the NGT’s orders had directed the demolition of slum dwellers’ houses or issued notices for such action. The court would question the Deputy Commissioner about the basis for the demolition notice.

Roy also highlighted that some individuals were spreading misinformation among the slum dwellers for political gains and urged them to present their claims before the NGT on an affidavit instead of making baseless public statements.
