Jamshedpur, Apr 25: On Friday, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy held a detailed discussion with the Urban Development Minister, Sudivya Kumar, at his residence. The focus of the meeting was to address key issues related to public services in the Mango Municipal Corporation and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC). The discussions centred on improving drinking water supply, garbage disposal, sewerage treatment and the development of various public facilities.

The meeting led to some significant decisions, including the transfer of the Mango drinking water project from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department to the Urban Development Department within the next 15 days. Minister Kumar instructed officials to resolve the operational challenges in the Mango water supply system, ensuring that adequate drinking water reaches all areas. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the water supply in the Baliguma area, with the chief engineer from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department being contacted to expedite solutions.

Roy emphasized the use of water from the Satnala Dam at Dobo to address the drinking water supply issues in Mango. Minister Kumar promised to engage with the Ministers of Water Resources and Drinking Water and Sanitation Departments to move forward with this project.

In terms of infrastructure development, the minister agreed to focus on the construction of a new Corporation office, a Town Hall, a marriage hall in Mango and an inter-state bus stand. He also confirmed the procurement of small JCBs and garbage lifting vehicles to effectively manage waste collection in Mango’s narrow streets.

Convention Centre and DM Library projects to get a boost

Roy also raised concerns about the long-delayed Convention Centre in Kadma and the DM Library in Sakchi, which have become structurally weakened over the years. He proposed that the government allocate a special grant to restore and start these projects. Minister Kumar assured that he would take direct action to address these issues.

Additionally, the minister agreed to Roy’s proposal for establishing a Command Control Communication Centre (SCADA) in Jamshedpur to improve traffic management and eliminate the need for vehicle checks at intersections.

Plans for river front development and drainage projects

The two leaders also discussed plans for River Front Development and drainage-based urban projects in the JNAC area. They agreed on the need to clean polluted drain water before it reaches the river and to implement the Central Government’s River City Alliance program for effective water management.

Saryu Roy also suggested that JNAC enhance its internal financial resources, particularly through holding taxes, to improve infrastructure in the city. He proposed giving holding numbers to slum dwellers and collecting taxes from Tata Steel Limited for buildings within the company’s jurisdiction.

Roy highlighted the upcoming renewal of Tata Steel’s lease agreement and proposed that the Urban Development Department take steps to ensure the development of public infrastructure on leased land.

Furthermore, Roy suggested conducting an animal survey in JNAC and Mango Municipal Corporation areas to better manage stray animals and ensure responsible ownership. He also mentioned that a detailed discussion regarding the Jamshedpur Industrial Area Committee would be scheduled for a future meeting.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders agreed to continue their efforts to address the remaining issues and implement the necessary solutions for the betterment of public facilities in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas.
