Jamshedpur, June 14: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has written to secretary urban development Jharkhand, Vinay Kumar Choubey on improving timing and quality of water supplied from Moharda drinking water project in Jamshedpur.
The MLA informs that aht the World Bank sponsored drinking water project at Moharda had its foundation stone laid by then chief minister Arjun Munda in 2006 and the project was finally completed partially in 2013. The beneficiaries of the project filled the application form but there were complaints on the irregular supply and quality of water supplied under the project. The then government handed over the project to Jusco in 2017 for operation and maintenance.
However, everyday there have been litany of complaints from the beneficiaries of the project on quality of water and irregular supply of water. The MLA alleges that Jusco claims that whenever Subernarekha river swells the plastic and other garbage from Jamshedpur and Mango clogs the pumphouse of the project which in turns damages the intake well machines. The Jusco claims that the design of the project is faulty and anyday the project can stop functioning.
The MLA claims that there is a need for an alternative project rectifying the flaws in design and locations of the existing project.
The MLA has requested the urban development secretary to call a joint meeting of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Jusco and drinking water and sanitation department and take steps to rectify the flaws in design and take steps to rectify it at the earliest and if it is not possible to rectify the flaws then start an alternative project in a new level.
