Sini/Jamshedpur: In a major relief to several families of the Mukhi community residing on railway land in Sini, the South Eastern Railway (SER) administration has agreed to temporarily halt its eviction drive. This was after the intervention of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy.
Railway administration had served eviction notices to families who have lived there for decades, ordering them to vacate their homes immediately. Coming at the height of the monsoon season, the sudden order threatened to leave numerous people homeless without alternative shelter. Notably, many affected families include retired railway employees who have spent their entire lives in the colony.
Seeking a resolution, the distressed residents approached Bhaskar Mukhi, the State President of the Mukhi Samaj Vikas Samiti, Jharkhand. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Bhaskar Mukhi directed the committee’s Seraikela-Kharsawan District President, Mohan Mukhi, to visit Sini, assess the ground reality, and compile a detailed report.
Following the assessment, Bhaskar Mukhi contacted MLA Saryu Roy over the phone to explain the humanitarian crisis. Acknowledging the sensitivity of the matter, Roy invited the delegation to his residence the following morning.
On Wednesday morning, Bhaskar Mukhi, accompanied by committee officials and representatives of the affected Sini families, met Roy. The delegation emphasized that while they respect the railway administration’s authority and are willing to vacate the land voluntarily, being displaced suddenly during the torrential monsoon rains would cause immense hardship. They requested additional time to make alternative living arrangements.
After listening to their grievances, Roy contacted the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of South Eastern Railway. Roy urged the DRM to adopt a humanitarian approach given the weather conditions and grant the residents a grace period to relocate respectfully. The DRM agreed to grant the affected families a one-month extension.
