Jamshedpur: Former Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Wednesday met the grieving family members of Himanshu Singh, who succumbed to injuries after being stabbed outside DD Bar in Bistupur.
Das alleged that criminals were operating with impunity in the state and accused the police administration of failing to maintain law and order. He said the incident had created fear among residents and demanded stringent action against those responsible for the killing.
The murder has triggered a strong political response, with the Jharkhand BJP announcing a Jamshedpur bandh on July 3 to protest the incident. State BJP President Aditya Sahu announced the shutdown during a press conference in Ranchi, while Raghubar Das also appealed for public support for the bandh following his visit to the victim’s residence. The announcement has further intensified the political atmosphere in the city.
Meanwhile, a meeting convened by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy on Wednesday evening was postponed following the imposition of prohibitory orders in parts of the city by the district administration.
Tension continued to prevail across Jamshedpur as the victim’s family levelled serious allegations against the administration. The family claimed that the post-mortem examination was conducted without their consent and alleged that efforts were being made by the administration, along with certain leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress, to pressure them into a compromise.
The family asserted that they would continue their protest until justice is ensured. They demanded a government job for Himanshu’s wife, strict legal action against all those involved in the murder, and exemplary punishment for the accused. Alleging that the post-mortem was carried out against their wishes, the family also refused to accept the body, stating that they would do so only after their demands are addressed.
