Seraikela, Nov 3: A minor boy, identified as Mohan Murmu, was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in Seraikela police station under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. He was hanging dead with the help of a belt, sources said.
Manohar Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Seraikela police station, has been suspended till further orders.
Sources said the minor was brought to the police station in connection with the alleged disappearance of a minor girl from Gohira village of Seraikela. A complaint was registered by the girl’s kin on 26th October last. Next day, the girl’s kin brought the accused boy and the girl to the police station. The boy was handed over to police while the girl was taken home by her kin. However, no written complaint was submitted by the relatives of the girl.
After staying for a week in the special Balmitra chamber for juvenile delinquents at the police station, the boy reportedly ended his life by hanging self to death with a belt yesterday, police claimed.
Taking serious view of the incident, SP Seraikela-Kharsawan Anand Prakash visited Seraikela police station with SDPO Harvinder Singh and Gamharia SHO Rajeev Kumar Singh late yesterday night and probed the matter. Seraikela Circle Officer Suresh Prasad Sinha was called as the executive magistrate for conducting the inquest. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Seraikela, where it was kept in the morgue at night.
The SP, who returned from a special camp organized in Kuchai under Apki Yojana Apki Sarkar Apke Dwar programme, said, “The family of Mohan Murmu have been informed. Further action would be taken as per their complaint.”
A medical board performed autopsy of the deceased at MGM Medical College today.
The accused SHO claimed that the officer entrusted with the task of investigating the complaint regarding the missing minor girl was responsible for the minor’s death.
