Jamshedpur, Dec 11: The construction of the Cath Lab at MGM Medical College, Dimna, is set to be completed by March 2025, offering a much-needed super specialty department for heart disease treatment in the Kolhan region. The work, which had stalled for several years, is now back on track under the direction of Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh.
The project was initially started in 2004 with an estimated cost of Rs 9.95 crore and was entrusted to Highway Construction Company Limited. While the basic structure of the building was completed, finishing work was delayed, leaving the project incomplete for years. Following a recent inspection by Dr. Singh, instructions were given to resume work, and progress is now underway.
The Cath Lab is crucial for the region as it will be the first center for heart disease treatment in Kolhan, an area that currently lacks specialized facilities. Patients are often referred to hospitals in Ranchi, Kolkata, or Tata Main Hospital (TMH), incurring high treatment costs. Once completed, the Cath Lab will provide local access to modern and affordable heart care.
“We are aiming to complete the construction by March,” said a senior official overseeing the project. “The basement, ground floor, and first floor will be equipped for the Cath Lab, with future plans for expansion.”
Dr. Singh is scheduled to visit the site again on December 12 to review the progress and evaluate the required medical staff and equipment needed for the center’s operation. Currently, there is no cardiologist at MGM, but the new facility will improve treatment options for heart patients in the region.
Once operational, the Cath Lab will significantly ease the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for specialized heart treatment.
