Jamshedpur: MGM Hospital to Offer Free Diagnostic Facilities for Ayushman and Lal Card Holders

MGM To Get First Hospital Management Committee

Jamshedpur: In a major step towards strengthening hospital administration and improving patient services, MGM Medical College and Hospital is set to form its first-ever Hospital Management Committee (HMC). The committee will ensure collective decision-making, regular monitoring, and better control over treatment services, infrastructure, and patient facilities.

The process to fix diagnostic rates at the upcoming Central Pathology Laboratory being built within the MGM campus has also been initiated, a move expected to provide relief to patients from costly medical tests.

Decision Follows State-Level Health Review Meeting

The initiative comes in the wake of a recent state-level health department meeting. On January 5, MGM Superintendent Dr Balram Jha attended a meeting held at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi, where the functioning model of the Hospital Management Committee was presented. The Ranchi Sadar Hospital model, known for effective monitoring of hospital operations and patient services, will now be replicated at MGM.

Senior Officials Finalise Committee Framework

A key meeting was held on Wednesday involving current MGM Principal Dr Diwakar Hansda, incoming Principal Dr Sanjay Kumar, and Superintendent Dr Balram Jha. Detailed discussions were held on the structure, powers, and functioning of the proposed committee.

Dr Hansda said the committee will include a district administration representative, the MGM principal, the superintendent, and senior doctors.

Regular Review of Hospital Services

The Hospital Management Committee will hold meetings at fixed intervals to review medical services, diagnostic facilities, availability of medicines, sanitation, human resources, and patient grievances. On-the-spot decisions will be taken to resolve issues, reducing delays and enhancing accountability within hospital administration.

Central Pathology Lab Near Completion

The Central Pathology Laboratory, being constructed on the MGM campus, is in its final stage. Once operational, it will enable all types of minor and major pathological tests at a single location. Currently, patients often depend on private laboratories for several tests, which significantly increases treatment costs.

Diagnostic Rates to Be Fixed as Per CGHS Norms

The hospital administration is preparing to fix the rates of several expensive tests at the Central Pathology Lab as per CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) norms. These rates are considerably lower than those charged by private laboratories. The objective is to ensure the lab remains financially viable while operating 24×7 throughout the week.

Major Relief for Economically Weaker Patients

Dr Diwakar Hansda confirmed that all diagnostic tests at the Central Pathology Lab will be completely free for Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries and Lal Card holders. This will provide direct financial relief to economically weaker patients and eliminate their dependence on costly private diagnostic centres.

Health experts view the formation of the Hospital Management Committee and the rationalisation of diagnostic charges at the Central Pathology Lab as significant steps towards making MGM Hospital’s healthcare services more organised, accessible, transparent, and patient-centric.
