Jamshedpur, Jan 19: The shifting of MGM Hospital from Sakchi to the new facility at the college campus in Dimna continues to face challenges, with new complications surfacing daily. Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Ajay Kumar Singh, has reiterated to college Principal Dr Diwakar Hansda and Superintendent Dr Shikha Rani that the hospital must be relocated to the new building by January 31, “at any cost.”
Despite the urgency, doctors remain hesitant to proceed, citing incomplete preparations at the new facility, particularly a lack of adequate water supply. “The absence of water arrangements is a major concern, making it difficult to ensure smooth operations post-shifting,” an official noted.
Adding to the pressure, the new building was supposed to be handed over floor by floor by the construction agency, but this process has yet to begin. The delay has prompted the Health Secretary to take a strict stance, considering the inaction as “disregard of instructions and indiscipline.” The failure to initiate the relocation and start the OPD services for three new super-specialty departments—cancer, neurology and cardiology—has further compounded the situation.
To expedite the process, ITDA Project Director Dipankar Chowdhury has instructed that shifting activities should occur on January 26 without exception. “The OPD will remain closed on Republic Day and the relocation must be carried out on that day,” Chowdhury stated.
With the January 31 deadline looming, the college and hospital management are under immense pressure to resolve outstanding issues and adhere to the directives. The timely relocation is expected to enhance healthcare services, but significant challenges remain in meeting the set timelines.
