Jamshedpur, April 8: A four member team of state health department visited MGM Hospital on Friday to probe the death of Puja Devi due to alleged negligence of doctors and paramedical staff.
Puja Devi, a resident of Laxminagar, was admitted to the government hospital in the last month of her pregnancy. She was reportedly a COVID-19 positive patient. When she complained of labour pain, the on duty doctors and other health staff allegedly refused to attend on her due to her COVID status. As a result, Puja succumbed to unbearable pain and lack of medical attention, alleged her family members.
Dr AK Patha of NHRC who is leading the probe team said all angles of the case are being examined carefully to arrive at the conclusion. The final report would be submitted to the health department for further action, he said.
The probe team also took statements of Puja’s relatives. Other team members included District Civil Surgeon Dr Sahir Pal and Rajvir Kaur.
