Jamshedpur, Nov 20: A man has been arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a girl by making false promises of marrying her. Patamda police arrested the accused, Priyanath Mahato, a resident of West Bengal, on Sunday and sent him to judicial custody.
Police officials investigating the case said that the girl’s sister had got married with a man who stayed at the village where the accused stays. Patamda police station in-charge, Ranjit Kumar, said that the accused used to frequent the house of the girl’s sister. Police say that the couple came to know each other and were romantically involved.
Mahato had got intimate with the victim after promising to marry her. However, after a year later, Mahato changed his mind and refused to marry the girl. When the villagers came to know about the dispute, the girl’s family members took the matter up with the village panchayat and appealed for justice.
When questioned by the panchayat members Mahato once again refused to marry the girl. The matter was then reported to the Patamda police and the accused was arrested.
