Jamshedpur man arrested for killing cousin

Jamshedpur, June 30: Rohit Singh (32), the prime suspect wanted in connection with the murder of his cousin brother, Deepak Singh, was arrested by Sonari police in the Nawada district of Bihar on Friday.

The incident dates back to March 10, when Deepak Singh, a 46-year-old bus driver and resident of Bairjhabra bustee in Sonari, was returning home on foot from the market. He was ambushed by two motorcycle-borne assailants who fired multiple gunshots at him, causing him to sustain three bullet wounds, including two in the shoulder.

Deepak was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital, and later transferred to a hospital in Kolkata, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on April 9. The investigation into his murder eventually led the police to uncover a conspiracy involving Rohit Singh.

Rohit, a resident of the Baridih locality in the steel city, had been on the run since the incident. However, on Friday, the Sonari police succeeded in locating and apprehending him. Earlier in May, two shooters, identified as Akshay Singh alias Bala and Navnit Kumar alias Bhola Yadav, were arrested. They had been contracted by Rohit to carry out the murder of his cousin brother.

Bala and Bhola Yadav, hailing from Bhojpur district, had allegedly received a sum of Rs 3 lakh from Rohit as payment for executing the contract killing.

The motive behind the murder appears to stem from a failed marriage arrangement. Deepak had facilitated Rohit’s marriage to a local girl two years prior, but the union ended in failure, leading to animosity between the two cousins.

The police, through their investigation, uncovered evidence pointing towards Rohit Singh’s involvement in the conspiracy to murder Deepak Singh.

Rohit has been taken into custody and is expected to face legal proceedings in connection with the murder of his cousin brother. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation, bringing a sense of closure to the family of the victim.
