Jamshedpur, Jan 2: Local residents near Sonari Airport have raised concerns over the reduction in the width of a crucial road adjacent to the airport. The issue has led to a halt in construction work as locals argue that the narrowing of the road will cause traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.
The road, which runs parallel to the main Sonari road, was previously widened with the installation of paver blocks to create a five-foot footpath for pedestrians. The local community benefitted from this initiative, especially during times of heavy traffic on the main road, such as during immersion processions.
However, recent construction plans involve reducing the width of this parallel road by five feet, which has sparked protests from residents. Sanjay Yadav, a senior member of the Sonari Shanti Samiti, explained the issue, stating, “We had a comfortable footpath and road space, but now, with the road narrowing, the situation will get worse, particularly during traffic jams. People will once again face the same struggles.”
The company in charge of the project, along with local representatives, has been in talks to resolve the matter. The residents have called for a solution that maintains the road’s accessibility while ensuring safety for both pedestrians and vehicles. The company officials have assured the locals that they are working on finding a way forward.
