Jamshedpur lad Biren Kumar wins CFL Amateur Open Golf

Jamshedpur/Kolkata, June 10: Jharkhand’s top amateur golfer and Jamshedpur lad Biren Kumar won the Eastern India Amateur Golf Tour 2022- the Champ for Life Academy (CFL) Amateur Open 2022.

Biren made an incredible comeback after shooting four-over-par 74 on day one, shooting four-under-par 66 and was tied with another top golfer from Kolkata, Gurshaan Singh Grewal, who eventually lost to Biren at the sudden death playoff on the third hole.

The tournament was held at the Tollygunge Club (8 June-10 June), and because of the WAGR event, the top amateurs competed for three days, i.e. players played three rounds.

With a score of 149, Abhishek Mitra won the Mid Amateur Category, followed by SK Rafick’s 155. Among the seniors, Ashit Luthra won by shooting 158 in both rounds, followed by Col Shree Kant Tiwary (161).

Ashit Luthra also won his category which the 60 years and above- the super seniors, followed by Subroto Kundu’s 192. Sinjini Mukherjee won in ladies category with a score of 146, followed by Fizza Ali’s 152. Sinjini shot one-under-par on the first day, which was also a record because no one in her category had done it before this year. Other notable performance was Samridh Sen’s one-under-par at the day one, but eventually he finish third in both days.  Gurshaan Singh Grewal won the WAGR Men’s Ranking with a score of 210, which was level par; Sinjini Mukherjee won the Ladies’ Ranking with a score of 11 over in three rounds.

CFL Amateur Open 2022 was a one-of-a-kind golf tournament since it was one of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting events, and it was the first WAGR golf event in Kolkata this year.

On January 23, 2007, The R&A, the governing body of golf outside of the United States and Mexico, created the World Amateur Golf Ranking for men. It is based on around 2,600 amateur tournament results every year. Those competing exclusively for the CFL Amateur Open 2022, on the other hand, played two rounds of golf as normal.
