Jhargram, Dec 19: Much to the inconvenience and consternation of the people of Jhargram district in West Bengal, Adivasi community leaders are being blamed for creating problems in a district where majority of government administrative posts, three out of four MLAs and citizens in general belong to the community and yet are unable to implement Olchiki language in schools.

Trinamool Congress leader who is also the district President and leader of the Adivasi Community, Robin Tudu’s wife Birbaha Tudu is a leader in her own right. Robin Tudu himself is the Chairman of West Bengal Adivasi Welfare and Education Board. As already stated, in spite of Jhargram being a general category and non reserved constituency, all administrative jobs and other key posts have been offered to Adivasis. The Jhargram district residents have no qualms what-so-ever on this issue. But they are agitated that even after being in administrative posts, the Adivasi leaders have not been able to contribute to development of Jhargram District and have pushed it to the brink of hopelessness. One example is their failure to impose Olchiki language teaching in a single school – particularly at Jamboni Block’s Sabolmara School. Leaders like Robin Tudu, Birbaha Tudu and a host of others have to resort to road blockades every other day for realization of demands. People are asking why. They accuse these Adivasi leaders of incompetence. Today’s road blockade of NH 6 has got on the nerves of highway commuters and the people of Jhargram district. The leaders are nowhere in sight and the people who comprise a majority from the Adivasi community are finding it difficult to contain their anger. Olchiki learning is an important issue but the delay in implementing the language learning is being attributed to incompetence of these leaders. These leaders need to wake up soon or face the consequences of Adivasi community revolt.
