Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur has been implementing CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative since 2017. The objectives of this initiative are to utilize CSIR knowledgebase and infrastructure for organizing training programs in various categories including industrial, professional and societal. These programmes had been devised for contributing to national skill mission and also to promote entrepreneurship through skilling and training.
A two-day Industrial visit was programmed for the Students of Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur on April 19 and 20 under ‘CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative’ scheme of Government of India. The objective of this visit was to make the students aware of the state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure that CSIR-NML had and about the various categories of skill trainings that were conducted by CSIR-NML.
This two-day visit was expected to improve their industry oriented views and encourage them to take up research as a career choice so that they can contribute to the nation through metallurgical innovations. This visit was designed to give an overview of various kinds of collaborative research that were going on in the main research divisions of CSIR-NML. The divisions they will be visiting include Metal Extraction and Recycling (MER) Division, Advanced Materials and Processes (AMP) Division, Analytical and Applied Chemistry (AAC) Division and Minerals Processing (MNP) Division.
The inaugural session of this program was held on Tuesday, April 19. A film was screened to highlight CSIR-NML’s glorious journey since inception in 1950.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr S Sivaprasad, Chief Scientist and Head HRG, CSIR-NML. He welcomed the students and talked about the organizational structure of CSIR-NML highlighting the primary research divisions and the supporting divisions. He gave an idea of various research activities that were usually carried out in the fields of Corrosion Science, Materials Characterization, Advanced Materials and Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation. He advised the students to utilize this opportunity and participate in active interaction with scientists of the research organization.
Dr Mita Tarafder, Chief Scientist & Head, Knowledge Resource & Information Technology (KRIT) Division, CSIR-NML talked about the skill training initiative program and encouraged the students to develop an innovative mind-set and come out with great research ideas that can address the current national issues like waste management and unemployment.
The visit was arranged for 18 students from the Department of Metallurgical Engineering of the Kazi Nazrul University and they were accompanied by two professors. Dr Projjal Basu, Professor and Head of the department shared his experience of being associated with the university and expressed his interest for more collaborative activities with CSIR-NML in future.
Dr K L Hansda, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NML and the Co-ordinator of the two-day visit and Dr Sanghita Mridha, Joint Co-ordinator from KRIT Division of CSIR-NML gave an overview of the whole program to the students. The program concluded with a photography session with all participants and organizers.
