Jamshedpur: JUSCO MD Ashish Mathur and JUSCO Shramik Union president Raghunath Pandey flagged-off an awareness drive on the occasion of World Water Day from Sir Dorabji Tata Park on Thursday.
This year’s theme ‘Nature for Water’ explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century. The objective of this initiative is to make people aware of the importance of water and how we as responsible human beings can conserve it for future generations.
Present during the function were Deepak Kamath, Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, R K Singh, A P Singh, Satyajit Chakraborty, Rajesh Rajan, Sukanya Das, Uma Ramna, Rajvardhan and other senior members from JUSCO and Union Officials.
Speaking during the function, Mathur said water is a fast depleting natural resource and one should work towards conserving and recycling water from existing sources. “JUSCO is working on a comprehensive plan for recycling waste water and at the same time is also creating awareness among consumers to encourage water conservation. It is the responsibility of each and every individual to conserve water and spread the message across society,” he said.
A nukkad natak prepared by the Water Management Team of JUSCO was showcased before the flag-off.
After the flag-off, several teams comprising members from the Water Division went around to different locations in town and organised an awareness drive. The team visited Sonari Joggers Park, Bhetia Park, Nildih Park, Sidhgora Park, Agrico Park, Golmuri Park, Ghorabhanda, Jugsalai and other parts of Jamshedpur , and distributed awareness pamphlets amongst residents.
On this day Tata Steel and JUSCO organised a whole day session to reinstate the importance of water and what initiatives each was taking in their own respective areas of operation to conserve, reduce, reuse, recycle and recharge water.
Throughout the day eminent speakers from JUSCO and Tata Steel presented their insights and videos on Water along with Panel discussions on Opportunities and Risks for the industry in context to Water Scarcity and Water and Community Empowerment. The session concluded with a Model Display by school children, a quiz for the audience and awards to the winners of the quiz and essay competitions held throughout the week.
