Jamshedpur, Nov 17: The body of the fourth missing policeman, Satyendra Bhardwaj, was recovered on Monday morning from the Dhurwa Dam, following the fatal accident that occurred on the night of November 14.
A senior police official confirmed the recovery, stating that despite an extensive search operation on Sunday, the body could not be located.
Early Monday, a team of divers spotted the body in another section of the dam and retrieved it.
The heartbreaking incident took place late Friday night when a team of police personnel assigned to the security of the Principal District Judge of Jamshedpur was returning from Ranchi in their duty vehicle.
The vehicle suddenly went out of control and plunged into the Dhurwa Dam at high speed.
Darkness in the area prevented immediate and effective search operations.
The next morning, local villagers alerted police after spotting the submerged vehicle in the dam.
Thereafter, a joint rescue team comprising NDRF, SDRF, and local police launched a massive search operation. On the first day, divers managed to pull the car out of the water, where they found the bodies of three policemen — Upendra Kumar Singh, Robin Kujur, and Anil Singh — trapped inside the vehicle. All three had died due to drowning.
However, the fourth policeman, Satyendra Bhardwaj, was not found inside the car.
Authorities suspected that he may have attempted to escape during the accident and was swept away by the water.
Search operations continued throughout Sunday and into early Monday, eventually leading to the recovery of his body at some distance from the accident site.
The tragedy has cast a deep shadow of grief across the police department.
Senior officials described the incident as extremely unfortunate and an irreparable loss for the force.
They extended heartfelt condolences and support to the families of the four deceased personnel.
