Jamshedpur, July 29: A day after issuing notices to several builders, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has embarked on fresh survey identifying buildings code and basement norms in the steel city.

Special officer, JNAC, Krishna Kumar confirmed that they are going to start a fresh drive against the buildings, especially commercial buildings and market complex to ensure that the owners of the buildings have not violated the building code.

“We are making a note of the buildings to ensure that the owners have not made extra floor in violation of the building plan approved by the civic body,” said Kumar. According to sources in the JNAC, due to using the basement for commercial purpose instead of using it for parking, roads in front of the buildings remain occupied with the vehicle parking.

“The size of the basement is determined by the civic body during the period when building plan is passed.  The basement of each and every building must be as per the approved building plan,” said the special officer.

He said that JNAC has decided to take steps against unruly builders. “We will act against them and ensure that the rules and norms would be maintained in construction,” he stated. The special officer pointed out that the violation of basement norms has been committed at the marketing complexes and residential apartments in Bistupur, Sakchi, Kadma and Sonari.

Notably, JNAC had also sealed a building being set up in deviation of the approved plan.  Earlier, the civic body had demolished encroached areas  of a building or razed the walls in the basement for paving the way for parking.
