Jamshedpur: JNAC launches Clean Toilet Campaign for Swachh Bharat Mission

Jamshedpur, Dec 7: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has launched a “Clean Toilet Campaign” as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission to further improve the city’s cleanliness and sanitation. A meeting was convened on Thursday at the JNAC office, where Special Officer Krishna Kumar outlined the necessary guidelines for the campaign.

The primary goal of the initiative is to enhance the city’s cleanliness ranking in the upcoming Swachhta Survey. The campaign will focus on evaluating and improving the physical condition of community and public toilets across the city. “It is important to ensure that every toilet is in good condition to maintain hygiene and promote cleanliness,” said Krishna Kumar.

The campaign will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will concentrate on spreading awareness about cleanliness, specifically urging people to avoid spreading dirt in public spaces. In the second phase, JNAC will take stricter measures by imposing fines on individuals caught spitting paan-gutkha in public areas. This crackdown is aimed at curbing the public habit that contributes to unsanitary conditions.

Jamshedpur has consistently performed well in cleanliness surveys, and the JNAC is determined to surpass last year’s achievements. In the 2023 Swachh Bharat Survey, Jamshedpur topped Jharkhand in cities with populations between one lakh and ten lakh, securing a remarkable 7042.4 marks out of 9500. Additionally, the city has retained its ODF Plus certification and received ODF Plus Plus and Three-Star Certification.

The Swachhta Survey 2024 will be conducted in three rounds, and Jamshedpur aims to achieve even higher scores to retain its top position. “The goal is to further improve our cleanliness ranking and continue the city’s legacy of cleanliness excellence,” added Kumar. (w/nkm)
