Jamshedpur, Feb 7: Political activity intensified at the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) public relations office in Sakchi on Friday after the party’s district in-charge and chief coordinator, Baghray Mardi, convened an emergency press conference to strongly refute a report aired by a electronic news channel, terming it misleading, baseless and completely false.
Addressing the media, Mardi categorically denied claims that a list of JMM candidates for the municipal elections had been released from the party’s central office.
He asserted that no such list has been issued through any authorised party platform, office or official communication.
Calling the report “fabricated and irresponsible”, he said it was circulated without verification or consent from the party.
Taking a sharp dig at the channel, Mardi questioned the ethics of broadcasting unverified political news.
“How can such a report be aired without any official confirmation or party statement . Has the responsibility of the media been reduced to creating sensationalism? ” he asked.
He stated that the circulation of such misleading information has caused confusion among grassroots workers, party activists and leaders, and has hurt them mentally.
According to him, the report has attempted to create internal confusion within the organisation and damage the party’s public image.
Mardi further alleged that the spread of such false news could be part of a larger conspiracy to weaken the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
He challenged the news channel to make public any authentic document it claims to possess, adding that in the absence of such proof, the report would be treated as malicious and deliberately misleading.
Adopting a firm stance, the JMM leader warned that the party would not take the matter lightly.
He announced that legal action would be initiated against the news channel and made it clear that any attempt to tarnish the party’s image would not be tolerated.
Concluding the press conference, JMM leadership appealed to the media to ensure mandatory official verification before broadcasting political news, stressing that such responsibility is essential to uphold the dignity of democracy, journalism and public trust.
Several senior JMM leaders and office-bearers were present at the press conference, including former MP Suman Mahto, central committee members Sheikh Badruddin, Pramod Lal, Sunil Mahto, Chandravati Mahto, along with numerous party leaders and activists.
