Jamshedpur, Jan 20: An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team of officials arrived at the residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday for quizzing him. This led to widespread protests statewide. In Jamshedpur, JMM leaders and activists converged at the Sakchi roundabout to mark their vociferous protest against the ED and the central government for forcibly harassing the Chief Minister and coming in the way of dispensing his state obligations.

During the protest, party supporters held banners and posters, raising slogans against the central government and the ED.

Leading the mass protest, the District President of the JMM Youth Wing, Baban Singh, challenged that in states where the BJP was not in power, the ED and CBI were being pushed to harass leaders and officials. He alleged that no investigation was being initiated against leaders and officials either owing allegiance to the BJP or supporting it openly. Singh stated that several high-profile cases of corruption over the past nine years, including those involving Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, BS Yediyurappa, Prema Khatun, Bhanu Pratap Dehati, and Ajit Pawar, were being deliberately ignored by the central government. Singh emphasized that if Hemant Soren had done anything wrong or indulged in corrupt acts, he should be put in jail because the law was equal for all. He criticized the repeated sending of notices to the state government, hindering its functioning. Singh expressed discontent with the continuous harassment of an Adivasi Chief Minister who was dedicated to the overall development of the state.

Former MP Suman Mahato, who participated in the agitation (Dharna), also criticized the ED’s actions, deeming them unjust if directed against Hemant Soren. She observed, “Any biased action against Soren would lead to widespread agitation throughout Jharkhand.”
