Jamshedpur, Dec 5: Police have cracked the Rs 12.47 lakh theft reported on December 1 from the office of JMA Stores in Bistupur.

The investigation revealed that the accused was none other than Ravi Ranjan, a staff member who had been working at the store for nearly 20 years.

Following the complaint lodged by the store management against unknown persons, police interrogated employees and other suspects.

During questioning, suspicion grew around Ravi Ranjan. He was taken into custody, and after sustained interrogation, he confessed to the theft.

Police said the store’s cashier was on leave the day the theft occurred.

During this period, Ravi Ranjan noticed where the locker keys were kept, used the opportunity to open the locker, and took away the cash.

In a surprising revelation, police found that the accused had not taken the stolen money outside the premises. Instead, he had hidden the cash within a secure spot inside the office.

Acting on his inputs, police recovered Rs 8,91,500 from the office itself. Efforts are on to trace the remaining amount.

Investigators stated that Ravi Ranjan had no prior criminal history and had been known for his honesty during his long service.

However, financial greed seemingly drove him to commit the crime.

He has been sent to judicial custody, while police continue investigating the missing amount and other possible angles in the case.
