Jamshedpur: Intensive campaign against food operators violating safety norms, 47 fined

Jamshedpur, August 26: Acting on the directive of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar an intensive checking campaign was conducted against food business operators violating food safety norms.

The campaign checked license/registration, cleanliness and other food safety standards of the food establishments of the city.

East Singhbhum food safety officer Deepshree informed that in the campaign conducted since August 23, more than 100 shops in the city have been checked so far, in which 47 shops have been fined. Strict warning has been given to all the food traders to do their business by following the Food Safety and Standards Act, otherwise legal action will be taken.

Food businessmen such as retailers, wholesalers, distributors, producers, hotels, restaurants, dhabas, caterers, meat-fish-egg shops, fruit-vegetable vendors, drug stores selling food supplements, canteens operating in government and non-government premises can apply online through foscos.fssai.gov.in for license/registration to store room, cart operator etc.

Designated Officer-cum-Sub-Divisional Officer Dhalbhum Sandeep Kumar Meena said that it is mandatory for the food traders to get the license/registration before doing food business as per the provision under the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006.

“Doing food business without licence/registration is a a punishable offence under section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 with a provision of imprisonment of six months and fine up to five lakh rupees,” the SDO added.
