Jamshedpur industrialist’s son missing, abandoned car on NH-33 sparks kidnapping fears

Jamshedpur: Panic has gripped the Adityapur industrial area and surrounding regions following the mysterious disappearance of Kairav Gandhi, son of noted industrialist Devang Chandra Gandhi. Police late on Tuesday recovered an abandoned luxury vehicle on National Highway 33 near Kanderbera, intensifying fears of a possible high-profile kidnapping.

The missing youth, 22-year-old Kairav Gandhi, is suspected to have been abducted from the Kanderbera area under Chandil. He belongs to one of the most respected industrial families of the Kolhan region, known for their business presence as well as long-standing contributions to social service and healthcare in Jamshedpur.

Prominent Industrial Family Background

Kairav Gandhi is the grandson of the late Kantilal Gandhi, a well-known city figure who founded the Kantilal Gandhi Memorial Hospital. He was also instrumental in starting free eye-care camps for underprivileged residents.

Kairav’s father, Devang Chandra Gandhi, currently serves as Vice President of the Adityapur Small Industries Association and is actively involved in social initiatives through the family trust.

Education and Personal Profile

Described by acquaintances as calm, soft-spoken and dedicated, Kairav completed his schooling at Loyola School, Jamshedpur. He earned a BBA from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in 2023 and completed his MBA in Family Business Management in March 2025.

Abandoned Vehicle Found

Acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team located Kairav’s vehicle parked on the shoulder of NH-33 near Kanderbera. Preliminary checks revealed no visible signs of damage or struggle. However, the car was found unlocked, with several personal belongings still inside, raising serious concerns among investigators.

Given the highway’s reputation for criminal activity, police are treating the case as a suspected kidnapping for ransom, although no formal demands have been reported by the family so far.

Police Launch Manhunt

The Adityapur Police, under the supervision of senior district officials, have issued an all-points bulletin across Seraikela-Kharsawan district and adjoining areas. Multiple teams have been formed to trace the victim’s last known movements.

“Forensic experts are examining the recovered vehicle for fingerprints and DNA evidence,” a senior police official said. “CCTV footage from toll plazas and roadside establishments along NH-33 is also being reviewed to identify any suspicious vehicles.”

Industrial Community on Edge

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Adityapur industrial belt, with business owners voicing concerns over the safety of industrialists and their families. Local industry bodies have urged the administration to expedite rescue efforts and strengthen police patrolling across industrial zones and highways.
