Jamshedpur in grip of second COVID wave

TMH COVID ward sees spiral from 8 to 80 patients in 10 days

Vaccination more effective in fighting pandemic: TMH

Jamshedpur, April 3: Jamshedpur is seeing a fresh surge in daily Covid-19 cases. Around 300 new cases have been reported in the last three days in East Singhbhum district. Jharkhand has also been witnessing around 700 cases daily for the last three days.

The district administration has tightened its belt to fight Corona virus. The administration has asked the hospitals to ensure isolation wards are intact. All the isolation wards have adequate provision of masks, drugs, hand sanitisers, water, soaps and other medical requirements.

With the city under the grip of the second wave of COVID-19 infections since last month, leading health hub Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has observed that vaccination is a more effective way to beat the pandemic.

The ongoing second wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) across India could peak by mid-April, after which it may see a decline by May end.

It is really very surprising that after the decline for a few months the cases are again rising with every passing day.

Addressing the media during a telephonic press meet, Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, COVID-19, Tata Main Hospital said that the hospital is fully prepared to fight the second wave. The hospital has focused on vaccination drive. “The seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that only 10 days before eights patients were being treated with corona virus and the numbers have increased to 80 at present,” he said.

He said that increasing the speed of vaccination is the only way to win the battle against the pandemic. The transmission of the viral spread is much higher in the second wave. He said that as the vaccination gathers speed the situation will become normal.

“Though the second wave is much higher in intensity than the first wave, the presence of vaccines makes the difference currently. The vaccine will develop the third immunity to fight the virus,” said Dr Choudhry.

The advisor also informed that on Friday 1100 tests were conducted by TMH out of which 16 cases were tested positive.

He also informed that Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has started the facility for Online Slot Booking facility. Bookings for COVID Vaccination can only be done through the TMH Vishwas portal/app.  “To contain the COVID19 pandemic, the Government of India has started the COVID Vaccination Programme since January 16. Under the programme,it is mandatory for all to register themselves on the Co-WIN app https://www.cowin.gov.in/home before booking slots through TMH Vishwas for COVID Vaccination.

As per the existing policy, the COVID vaccine will be available free to all Tata Steel entitled beneficiaries. All non-entitled patients will have to make online payments of Rs.250/- to book their slots.  Slots for COVID Vaccination can be booked up to three days in advance.

He went on to inform that 140 beds are there for Covid patients and 18 ICU beds. As part of these efforts, the advisor urged the public to make sure they follow Covid guidelines. “As per the data available we have found that the impact of the virus has increased. However, we need to be careful in the coming days. We must take precautionary steps to ensure further safety. Avoid crowds, wear masks and maintain distance,” said Dr Choudhry.
