Jamshedpur: IMD predicts light rain in isolated pockets on New Year

Jamshedpur: As the countdown to the New Year begins, the Ranchi Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of light rain in isolated pockets of north-western Jharkhand on January 1, 2024. The rain alert covers areas including Daltonganj, Latehar, Koderma, and other pockets of the Palamu region.

Rain Alerts for January 2 and 3: The rain forecast extends beyond New Year’s Day, with alerts issued for isolated areas of Jharkhand on January 2 and January 3. While no significant synoptic situation currently exists over Jharkhand, the rain prediction is based on satellite pictures and wind chart analysis.

An official from the India Meteorological Department commented on the forecast, stating, “Although there is no significant synoptic situation over Jharkhand, the rain forecast for New Year’s Day is based on satellite imagery and wind chart analysis.”

Jharkhand is anticipated to experience a drop in temperature in the first week of the New Year as northwesterly winds are expected to blow through the state. Currently, easterly winds are dominating, resulting in a rise in minimum temperature. The change in wind patterns is expected to bring cooler weather to the region.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed over the state in the last 24 hours. Jamshedpur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 27.2°C, while Garhwa reported the lowest minimum temperature at 9.4°C.

Regarding the temperature changes, an IMD official stated, “The easterly winds have led to a rise in minimum temperature. However, as we approach the New Year, we expect a shift in wind patterns, bringing a drop in temperature, especially with the influence of northwesterly winds.”

As residents prepare to welcome the New Year, the weather forecast adds an element of anticipation, with the possibility of rain contributing to a unique start to 2024 in certain regions of Jharkhand. The IMD will continue to monitor and update the weather conditions to ensure public awareness and safety.
