Jamshedpur illegal mining: 8 trucks seized

Jamshedpur, May 24: East Singhbhum district administration here continued crackdown against mining mafia by confiscating eight trucks carrying sand and stone chips on Tuesday.

Sources said a team of district transport officials led by the District Transport Officer (DTO) Dinesh Ranjan seized two vehicles in Jadughora and six in Dhalbhumgarh during a special checking drive. Five trucks carried sand while three carried stone chips. All of them were found to be overloaded, said the DTO.

When asked, the truck drivers could not produce documents showing mining permit or challan. The DTO was directed to forward the seized vehicles to the district mining officer after imposing a fine of Rs 3 lakh on them, sources said.

The special campaign has been launched across the district on the directive of East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, sources said.

Sources said Jharkhand government has directed all districts to launch a special drive against illegal mining.
