Jamshedpur, Dec 10: East Singhbhum district administration Saturday imposed Section 144 near Hanuman Mandir situated close to Basant Central in Sakchi after alleged attempt to construct the temple by a group of people.

Sources said two groups of people had recently clashed over the issue of constructing the temple. One of the groups reportedly started roof construction work without permission from the district authorities concerned. Police reached the scene and stopped the work. They said senior police officials had ordered that the temple construction will not be allowed. Thereafter, police lathi-charged the people engaged in construction work.

A contingent of quick response team (QRT) was also called to control the situation around 1 am. More than a dozen people were injured in the incident. The victims, Appu Tiwary, Ashish Mishra, Chintu Singh and others were taken to MGM Hospital where three of them were admitted.

Tiwary said the concrete roof of the temple was being set when police came and stopped the construction work. He said Ashish Mishra sustained severe head injury in the incident. He added that a meeting would be convened today to plan further protest strategy.
