Jamshedpur Gurdwara bans use of perfume to preserve sanctity at Guru Darbar

Jamshedpur, Oct 16: In a bid to uphold the sanctity of Guru Darbar, the Baridih Gurdwara Committee has implemented a ban on the use of perfumes during religious functions.

The decision aligns with the directives issued by the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee, reflecting the committee’s commitment to preserving the purity of religious practices.

The use of perfumes, which may contain alcohol, poses a potential conflict with the reverence that the Sangat holds for Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and the religious gatherings. Acknowledging that this oversight might occur due to ignorance, the committee aims to educate both the Sangat and the management on the need to ensure that perfumes used during religious festivals or marriage ceremonies within Guru Darbar are free from alcohol and harmful chemicals.

In an effort to streamline religious ceremonies, the committee has decided that if the Anand Karaj is concluded before 8 am in the morning, the bride and groom will receive a certificate from the committee. This step aims to encourage timely completion of the sacred union, aligning with the spiritual and cultural significance of the ceremony.

Additionally, recognizing the importance of inclusivity, the committee has resolved to make special arrangements for the entertainment of children from economically weaker sections of Sikh families. This initiative reflects the committee’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and ensuring that every member, regardless of economic status, can partake in the joyous celebrations at Guru Darbar.

The decision-making meeting witnessed the presence of key leaders, including Chairman Kartar Singh, Chairman Mohan Singh, president Kulwinder Singh, general secretary Sukhbinder Singh, cashier Balwinder Singh, Bibi Davindra Kaur De, Hazuri Granthi Baba Niranjan Singh among others, actively participated in the discussion.
