Jamshedpur: Tension gripped the Golmuri police station area on Thursday after the daylight murder of fruit trader Kanhaiya Yadav triggered widespread public outrage.

Angry residents blocked the Tinplate Chowk, demanding the immediate arrest of the main accused in the case.

Protesters sat on the road, raised slogans against the police, and burned tyres to express their anger. The blockade led to long traffic snarls at the busy intersection, causing inconvenience to commuters and schoolchildren.

Police officials rushed to the spot and attempted to pacify the demonstrators, but the protesters remained firm on their demand that the main accused be arrested before they would lift the blockade. They also warned that they would continue protesting with the victim’s body if action was not taken.

Kanhaiya Yadav was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday morning. The assailants allegedly fired multiple shots at him, hitting him twice in the head and once each in the stomach and leg. During the attack, his associate Ranjeet Sharma alias Kali reportedly ran into the City DSP office premises to save himself.

The murder has been linked to Rahul Singh, son of Kalika Singh, Billa Pathak, and their associates.

Based on CCTV footage, police have detained three persons, including the father of the alleged shooter. Investigation into the case is ongoing.

On Wednesday night as well, angry locals had gathered at Golmuri police station and created a commotion.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further escalation of tension.
