Jamshedpur, May 24: Geeta Theatre presented a Nukkad Natak (street corner plays), ‘Jal Nahi Tho Kal Nahi’ organized by the district Nehru Yuva Kendra under the Jal Jeevan Mission project.
Presented in Nukkad Natak format, ‘Jal Nahi Tho Kal Nahi’ narrates the trials and tribulations of water crisis. Enacted in two scenes, the first part shows peoplein long queues waiting at a public tap to collect water. When the water flow commences, quarrels erupt over trivial issues like the quantity of water that one collects, the length of time another is taking to fill containers while yet another is jumping the queue. The quarrels continue while others impatiently await their turn but by then, the supply is turned off. The blame game follows and the quarrel scenario continues.
The next scene takes the audience to 2050. The concept of taps and other water collection sources have given way to online availability. Online orders are delivered after a gap of two to three days. The price of water bewilders a child and when asked, the mother blames it on the predecessors and accuses them of misusing and wasting water. “Today, we are paying for their sins that have led to this water crisis,” says the mother.
The Nati (female narrator) appears at this juncture and explains the need for water conservation and its various means so that the future generations do not have to confront the horrors arising out of acute water crisis. Geeta Theater’s artists Suman Kumari, Harshit Suman Karwan, Riya Sundi, Jhanavi Kumari and Aman put up impressive performances in the play ‘Jal Nahi Tho Kal Nahi,’ directed by Geeta Kumari.
