Jamshedpur, August 21: The city is preparing to welcome the Shaheedi Nagar Kirtan Yatra dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The historic procession, which began from Dhobri Sahib Gurdwara in Assam, will reach Jamshedpur on 26 August 2025 after passing through Asansol, Dhanbad, and Bokaro.
The Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) Jamshedpur has made elaborate arrangements for the grand event. CGPC President Sardar Bhagwan Singh appealed to people of all communities to join the yatra, saying Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice stands as a universal lesson.

“Guru Sahib’s supreme sacrifice teaches us that defending faith and humanity is the highest duty. This Nagar Kirtan is not limited to Sikhs; it is for all humanity. Jamshedpur is known as ‘Mini India,’ and its diversity is its strength. When people of every faith come together, the message of brotherhood will spread far and wide,” he said.
CGPC Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh informed that welcome gates will be set up at Jugsalai (near Sankata Singh Petrol Pump), where Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the sacred Palki Sahib will be received with the Panj Pyare. Community stalls will also be arranged to serve refreshments.

Adding further, Sardar Inderjeet Singh, General Secretary of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib, said it was a matter of pride for Jamshedpur to host the yatra. “The purpose is to remind society of Guru Sahib’s sacrifice, inspire the younger generation with Sikh history, and spread the message of unity. Sacred relics, historic weapons, and Sikh literature will also be displayed for the sangat,” he stated.
Gurmeet Singh Tota, a CGPC office bearer, announced that the procession will halt overnight at Telco Gurdwara Sahib, where continuous kirtan, langar, and religious gatherings will take place. Around 200 kirtani jathas, kathavachaks, and devotees are expected to join the yatra.
Emphasizing discipline during the event, CGPC President Bhagwan Singh added, “The Palki Sahib will be given a grand welcome at Doboh Manjeet Hotel. Youth will lead with Nishan Sahibs on cars and motorcycles, but we appeal strongly that no stunts or unsafe activities be performed.”
