Adopt tenets of humanism preached in religious texts: Dr. S Radhakrishnan
Jamshedpur, Sep 4: Dr. Radhakrishnan visited Jamshedpur on May 4, 1966, to inaugurate the Bodhi Temple which was founded by the Bodhi Society and the society assisted by Dalai Lama, and the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Radhakrishnan expressed that he was happy to see good work in the city for the prosperity of the nation. He spoke about the love for humanity as the principles of the religion that Buddha preached and practiced, which must be followed. He also cited the importance of meditation.
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888–1975), was the second President of India, succeeding Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1962 till 1967. He also served as the first Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962.

An academic scholar, a philosopher, and a Politician, Dr. Radhakrishnan had constantly endeavored to improve the education system in India and encouraged the youth to grow and advance in shaping the world with the power of education. He conferred several awards including a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1954, and honorary membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963.
Every year, September 5, is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India to honor and remember Dr. Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary.
