Jamshedpur: The Forest Department has introduced an identity card system for villagers entering Dalma Forest, aiming to streamline movement and prevent unauthorized entries. Moving forward, locals must carry official identity cards issued by the department to pass through the Makulakocha check post without hassle.
Officials stated that 5,000 identity cards will be issued, which must be displayed on vehicles or presented at the check post. “This initiative will resolve recurring issues at the entry gate, where villagers face delays and unnecessary checks,” said a senior forest official.
The new system aims to distinguish genuine villagers from unauthorized visitors who have previously used local names to evade toll tax payments. Currently, the Makulakocha check post collects Rs 70 lakh in annual toll revenue, a portion of which is lost due to fraudulent entries.
Villagers from a dozen local communities will benefit from the new rule, as they will no longer need to pay the toll. Identity card distribution is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Additionally, if relatives of villagers visit Dalma, residents must inform forest officials in advance. If prior intimation is not given, verification will be conducted by a local reference before allowing entry.
Authorities believe this system will improve security, prevent unauthorized access and streamline movement, ensuring a hassle-free experience for locals while keeping Dalma Forest protected.
