Jamshedpur, March 27: East Singhbhum district administration launched an anti-encroachment campaign at Dimna Road in Mango late Sunday night. More than 150 shops built in the middle of Dimna Road were razed down.

Hundreds of roadside vendors took to the streets against the action taken by the district administration and demanded rehabilitation at the earliest. They said they should be rehabilitated in proportion to the total population as per the Municipal Rules 2014.

They said they should be provided adequate space to carry on their daily business. A meeting was convened by the vendors on Monday to chalk out their protest strategy.

Dimna Road falls under the Assembly constituency of the State Health Minister Banna Gupta. Although Gupta’s brother tried to stop the action of the district administration during the anti-encroachment campaign, the district administration officials did not listen to him.

Meanwhile, the BJP has also come out openly in support of the vendors and shopkeepers. The district administration has long been trying to remove the vendors from the main road.
