Jamshedpur Flyover: 49 of 57 pillars completed,  girder installation underway

Jamshedpur: In a much-awaited development that brings a sigh of relief to thousands of commuters, the under-construction flyover in the Mango area of Jamshedpur has picked up significant pace. With traffic snarls becoming a daily ordeal for residents, the acceleration in the construction of this Rs 252-crore mega project offers the promise of a smoother, faster future for the steel city.

Located near Blue Bells School on Dimna Road, the flyover is being touted not just as a solution to chronic traffic congestion, but also as a landmark infrastructure project that will add to the city’s urban appeal. Once completed, the flyover will enable seamless two-way movement and significantly reduce travel time on one of the city’s busiest stretches.

“This flyover is a lifeline for the people of Mango and surrounding areas. For years, we’ve dealt with congestion, especially during office hours and school timings. This development will change that reality,” said Ramesh Singh, a resident of Mango.

Built on a robust framework of 57 pillars, the flyover has already seen substantial progress, with 49 pillars completed and work on the remaining ones advancing rapidly. A key feature of the project is the four-lane segment towards Dimna Road, designed to facilitate uninterrupted two-way traffic—a crucial consideration given the area’s dense population and commercial activity.

The project is being carried out using cutting-edge technology and machinery, marking a first for the city. A high-tech girder launching machine worth ₹9.5 crore has become the centerpiece of operations. This machine can lift and place girders that are 120 feet long, 6 feet high, and weigh up to 125 tonnes—ensuring both speed and precision in the construction process.

Notably, more than ₹30 crore has already been invested solely in machines and equipment, reflecting the project’s scale and technical sophistication. The piling phase was carried out using advanced equipment valued at ₹4.5 crore, underscoring the project’s high-end engineering pedigree.

“This is one of the most ambitious flyover projects in the region,” said an official associated with the construction. “With the machinery at hand, we’re not just building a road, we’re setting new benchmarks in urban infrastructure.”

In a parallel development, the second flyover project underway on Mango’s New Purulia Road has also received a crucial upgrade. Initially designed as a one-way route, the plan was revised to accommodate two-way traffic following intervention by local MLA Saryu Roy, who advocated for a design that aligns with the actual commuting needs of the area. The construction company has greenlit the revision, much to the satisfaction of local residents and daily commuters.

“ The significance of these projects goes beyond concrete and steel. They represent a thoughtful, technology-driven response to Jamshedpur’s evolving needs. As the city expands and the number of vehicles continues to rise, such infrastructure initiatives are critical to maintaining mobility, safety, and the overall quality of urban life,” said a resident.
