Show to exhibit rare flowers, prize-winning roses, and workshops by experts

Jamshedpur, Dec 19: The 34th annual Flower Show is set to take place from December 29, 2024, to January 1, 2025, at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur. Organized by the Horticulture Society of Jamshedpur in collaboration with Tata Steel and Tata Steel UISL, the event will showcase a vibrant variety of flowers, with a special emphasis on roses.

The show will remain open from 9am to 9 pm each day.

This year’s theme, “Charo Taraf Gul Aur Gulab Hai, Jamshedpur me aai Bahar Hai,” highlights the artistry of horticulturists from across India. Expert horticulturists will evaluate the exhibits during the event.

Addressing the media at CFE on Thursday, Horticulture Society President Sumita Nupur, General Secretary Dr. Anuradha Mahapatra, and Vice President BK Maity shared details of the event, which will feature hundreds of rare and exquisite flowers, including prize-winning roses, exhibits from Pune, Nagpur, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rourkela, Ranchi, Durgapur, Kolkata, Jajpur.

The show will also include workshops led by renowned experts, competitions for floral arrangements, and exhibits from 30 nurseries. Sixteen octogen hangers will cater to gardening enthusiasts, offering a variety of horticultural products for purchase.

The entry fee for the event is Rs. 10, and adequate safety measures will be in place. Food enthusiasts can enjoy delicacies from 10 food stalls at the venue.

Sumita Nupur highlighted the significance of the event, saying, “The flower show celebrates the beauty of floriculture while raising awareness about sustainable gardening practices. It is also a tribute to our city’s commitment to preserving this art form.”

“The event will feature a rose specimen named after Ratan Tata, to be unveiled on the opening day as a tribute to the legendary industrialist. A separate enclosure will be set up at the venue as mark of respect to Ratan N Tata who passed away at a Mumbai hospital on October 9, 2024. The chairman emeritus of the Tata Group was 86,” added Sumita.

Additionally, students from 20 schools will participate in a sit-and-draw competition.

Dr Anuradha Mahapatra informed that technical sessions on December 30 and 31 will cover topics such as seasonal flower cultivation, kitchen gardening, smart gardening technologies, and pest management.

Last year, the event recorded a footfall of 70,000 visitors, and organizers expect this number to rise to 80,000 this year.

Jamshedpur to host Rose Show after 12-year hiatus

Jamshedpur, Dec 19: After a 12-year hiatus, Jamshedpur is set to host the 41st All India Rose Convention cum Rose Show on December 29 and 30 at Gopal Maidan and Tulsi Bhawan. Organized by the Indian Rose Federation (IRF) in collaboration with the Horticulture Society of Jamshedpur, the event promises to be a visual treat for flower enthusiasts and the general public.

The show will run from 9 AM to 9 PM and is themed “Charo Taraf Gul Aur Gulab Hai, Jamshedpur me aai Bahar Hai.” Vice President of the Horticulture Society Jamshedpur, BK Maity, informed that the event will feature approximately 4,000 varieties of cut roses displayed across 77 sections. Local rose growers will be given a special pavilion, showcasing their blooms with their names prominently displayed.

Technical sessions will be held at Tulsi Bhawan as part of the convention. Experts from the IRF will deliver insights on rose cultivation methods, growing roses in soilless conditions, and rose breeding techniques.

The event is expected to draw over 250 delegates, including 66 local participants.
