Jamshedpur, Feb 19: A five-day tennis ball cricket tournament is going to be organized at Jamshedpur Cooperative College ground under the aegis of Liverpool Cricket Club and Jai Mahakal Seva Sangh. The tournament convener Sushil Pandey said teams from different parts of the country were going to participate in the event which would start on 23rd February. A total of 32 teams would participate in the tournament. Every match would be of eight over. Every day, seven matches would be played on knockout basis. The semifinal and final matches would be of 10 over each. The winning team will carry home a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh along with the trophy while the runner-up team would get cash prize of Rs 75,000 and trophy. The teams reaching semifinals would get trophy and cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.
According to Neeraj Singh, chief patron of Jai Mahakal Seva Sangh, “The tournament will offer a platform to youths of remote areas of the state to showcase their sporting talent. Sports events promote mutual harmony among youths and also teaches them team work. Youths who devote their time and energy to sports also remain away from drugs and other types of addiction and reach to newer heights in their lives.”
Man of Series, Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best Catch prizes would also be given in the tournament which would be telecast live on YouTube.
The chief guest of the tournament would be Dr Amar Singh, Principal of Jamshedpur Cooperative College. Star cricketer Sourabh Tiwary, Virat Singh and former Ranji player Manoj Yadav would also be present during the tournament.
