Jamshedpur, December 12: Jamshedpur FC will host Punjab FC in a pivotal Indian Super League encounter as both teams look to solidify their positions in the league standings. Jamshedpur, currently in eighth place with 15 points from nine matches, are keen to close the gap on Punjab, who sit third with 18 points.
Jamshedpur’s recent 3-1 victory over Mohammedan SC provided a much-needed boost to their campaign. Mohammed Sanan’s spectacular strike stole the show, while goals from Javi Siverio and Stephen Eze, showcasing their proficiency in set pieces, and reaffirmed their attacking prowess.
“We must get three points. The last game was okay, but the results in some of the previous matches were not up to the mark. To cover everything, we must get a positive result,” said Khalid Jamil.
Jamshedpur’s attacking lineup, led by the experienced Javi Hernández and supported by Mohammed Sanan, will be crucial against Punjab’s defence. In defence, Eze and Pratik Choudhary leadership at the back will be instrumental in countering Punjab’s threats.
Defender Muhammed Uvais remains optimistic despite recent setbacks. “We lost two games with significant goal differences, but there was no negativity in the team. Everyone pushed to the maximum, and we should have won the last match. That’s why we are positive now,” he said.
Punjab FC, known for their cohesion and consistency, will present a tough challenge. However, Jamshedpur’s recent form and home advantage could prove decisive as they aim to move closer to the playoff spots.
The match kicks off at 7:30 PM at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, promising an electrifying contest between two determined sides.
