Jamshedpur, July 11: Football fever is set to grip Jamshedpur once again as Jamshedpur FC gears up for the prestigious Durand Cup 2025, Asia’s oldest football tournament. The first batch of 13 players is scheduled to report at Flatlet on Saturday to begin pre-tournament training under head coach Khalid Jamil. This marks the team’s first official training camp since their Super Cup campaign earlier this year.
The players arriving on Saturday include Albino Gomes, Amrit Gope, Ayush Jena, Pratik Chaudhari, Pronay Halder, Kartik Choudhary, Sourav Das, Mobashir Rahman, Puia, Sreekuttan, Nikhil Barla, Mohammed Sanan, and Ritwik Das. For many of them, it’s a return to familiar turf and an opportunity to regroup, refocus, and build momentum ahead of a competitive season.
Goalkeeper Albino Gomes, who was instrumental in JFC’s strong finish last ISL season with his composure and critical saves, is expected to play a vital role in leading the defensive line. Ritwik Das, one of the club’s top attacking threats, returns after a promising ISL campaign where he dazzled with his pace, movement, and goalscoring prowess. The coaching staff will be counting on him to ignite the attack during the Durand Cup.
Local talent Nikhil Barla, the young forward from Jharkhand, will be looking to make his mark in the tournament and push for a more prominent role in the squad. His energy and flair will be closely watched as he looks to impress on home turf.
Jamshedpur FC’s group stage matches will be played at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. The team will face Nepal’s Tribhuvan Army FT on July 24, Indian Army FT on July 29, and Durand Cup debutants Ladakh FC on August 8. All matches are scheduled for 4 PM kick-off, and the Steel City fans are eagerly waiting to cheer their team to glory.
