Ex-Servicemen Protest Police Brutality Against Retd Soldier

Jamshedpur: Allegations of police misconduct and assault against a retired soldier in the Kadma police station area on April 16 have sparked outrage across the veteran servicemen community. Protesters described the incident as not only inhumane but a direct insult to the honour of the Indian Armed Forces.

Led by the Akhil Bhartiya Purva Sainik Seva Parishad, a large group of ex-servicemen marched to the Kadma police station to stage a fierce protest. The demonstrators accused ASI PCR Mahavir Upadhyay and driver Sanjeev Kumar of physical assault and verbal abuse.

The veterans stated that they would not tolerate such treatment of personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation. They argued that even if the individual had committed a mistake, the police should have followed protocol by informing military authorities rather than resorting to “repressive and violent actions.”

During the demonstration, Parishad officials warned the administration that they would escalate the movement to state and national levels if they did not immediately suspend and prosecute the guilty police personnel.

“We have always cooperated with the district administration, but our honour is now under direct attack,” a spokesperson stated. “If the nation’s soldiers are not safe from the police, how can common citizens expect safety?”

The Parishad plans to meet with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and high-ranking military officials to demand justice. Over 30 veterans participated in the protest, including key members such as Varun Kumar, Prakash Patel, S.K. Singh, Awadhesh Kumar, Rajiv Kumar, Manoj Kumar Singh, S.B. Singh, Sanjay Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Birju Kumar, and Gopal Kumar.

The organization warned that if the administration fails to provide swift justice, the veterans will launch a massive public movement, for which the administration will be held entirely responsible.
